Case Study

Slaughterhouse Wastewater Treatment Plant

The Client

Slaughterhouse residual water treatment plant with content of BOD. Unreliable control of total and residual chlorine due to the use of bleach for treatment. Not meeting the operational permit limits of residual chlorine, pH and contaminants.

Project Overview

Due to the client’s need to control chlorine consumption and effectively and consistently reduce contaminants, the PROVITAB 3™ system was selected, as it provides the control and reliability required to meet the plant’s operating permit parameters.

Our Impact

By using the PROVITAB 3™ system, the slaughterhouse saw significant improvements in contaminant control, chemical consumption, and operating costs:

  • Precise parameter control
    • Residual chlorine always within the required range of 1 to 2.5 ppm
    • Neutral pH (7.2 – 7.4) as Provichlor™ does not modify the water pH
    • Contaminant control within requirements
  • Dramatic reduction in chemical consumption:
    • The plant’s daily chemical usage dropped from 65 lbs of sodium hypochlorite to just 8 lbs of Provichlor™, representing
    • more than 80% reduction in chemical consumption.
    • Furthermore, product handling improved by eliminating the need to control, store and handle large volumes of liquid.
  • Reduced operating costs:
    • Despite the higher price of PROVITAB 3™, the client achieved a 23% cost reduction.

The superior solution to the client’s needs with the PROVITAB 3™ system was demonstrated.
