Case Study

Pulp & Paper Mill Wastewater Plant

Photo of machines at a paper mill, one of PROVITAB 3's clients and success stories.

The Client

A pulp and paper mill wastewater treatment plant implemented the PROVITAB 3™ system. Before the project began, the plant had a discharge water requirement of a 0.5 ppm free chlorine residual and a total coliform count of less than 10,000 MPN/100 ml. The plant’s daily flow is 0.635 MGD (Million Gallons per Day).

Project Overview

The client was using calcium hypochlorite for its water treatment needs. The PROVITAB 3™ system and PROVICHLOR™ tablets were introduced as a more efficient and cost-effective alternative. The goal was to demonstrate how PROVICHLOR™ could meet the client’s water treatment requirements while significantly reducing chemical consumption and operational costs.

Our Impact

By switching to the PROVITAB 3™ system with PROVICHLOR™ tablets, the pulp and paper mill wastewater plant saw a dramatic improvement in both efficiency and cost savings:

  • Reduced Chemical Consumption: The plant’s daily chemical usage dropped from 396.83 lbs of calcium hypochlorite to just 220.46 lbs of PROVICHLOR™, representing a 44.44% reduction in chemical consumption.
  • Significant Cost Savings: Despite the higher price per pound, the reduction in quantity led to substantial savings. The daily cost was reduced by 23%, which translated to an equally impressive annual savings of 20.6%.

The project successfully demonstrated that the PROVITAB 3™ system with PROVICHLOR™ is a superior solution, providing effective disinfection while offering significant financial and operational benefits.
